reading

my friend brought me my books today. i'm glad because i've gotten so lazy about reading. i do read, but it's mostly harry potter and internet stuff. the last book i finished was why does he do that? which is about abusive men. i was going to say i enjoyed it a lot, but given the subject matter it seems like an odd thing to say. i did find it very interesting and readable, though, and i learned a lot. so i hope the books i got from my friend are good in the same way.

there's one book in the stack by an author i already know i don't like. i don't mean i don't like the book - i've never read it - i mean i don't like the author as a person. i have a hard time separating interest from enjoyment, meaning, i find it very difficult to read things i find offensive even if i know i need to learn about the material. unless it's so offensive that it's funny or bizarre, and then i can read it. but anyway, i'm going to try to read this book so i can overcome this problem. books are like dinner plates: you don't have to eat everything offered to you but if there's something on the plate you like you should eat it and then if you are me you should dump the rest in the trash. but don't starve to death just because you don't like most of what's on the plate.
